My Works

Here are the projects I have completed so far. Most of my work is related to social issues and I like to reflect on the current state of society and reflect them in my clothing.

"Don't let humans be the last animal"

Hidden endangered resources mean that ordinary people feel that they are rich in quantity, but they are about to or have gone extinct. For this design, I chose rhinos, hippos, and zebras. They are hidden endangered wild animals that exist in every corner of human life. Few people know that their annual deaths from human hunting are increasing dramatically. In the design, I extracted the shapes of rhino horns and hippo teeth into lamb-leg sleeves, and placed them on both sides of the body to mean "protection". The gray woolen fabric is the main material, and I sew it irregularly into a zebra-patterned black and white striped fabric and irregularly woven red woolen yarn as an auxiliary material. The texture of the woolen yarn represents the flesh and blood of animals and also means the greed of human beings.

Although people are advocating the protection of wild animals and emphasizing the balance between humans and animals, isn't it also the "protection" that humans carry selfish desires in order to provide themselves with abundant supplies? Indiscriminate killing and waste have always existed. Whether it is wild animals or natural resources, they will only gradually disappear under the selfish desire of mankind.

"Not defined"

The inferiority between men and women is a deep-rooted old social custom. Even in a modern society that emphasizes equality between men and women, discrimination against women can still be found everywhere in life. In this project, I first determine the width of the clothing from the historical differences in the silhouettes of men and women or specific female clothing such as panties and bras. I collage the extracted silhouettes into the original styles and make them by draping. I use different cutting methods to obtain different forms of clothing, and use the split and combination of positive and negative shapes to discuss the equality between men and women in silhouette. In this project, the clothing is more neutral. I combined the suit representing men with lace and pleats representing women. Therefore, this series of clothing is gender-neutral, which also emphasizes the concept of gender equality.

"Outfit of the day"

The COVID-19 outbreak has disrupted the life of many people, and their lifestyles have also undergone great changes. In order to avoid the spread of the epidemic, people's daily activities and work are confined to their homes. As the workplace changes, people have some new definitions of daily clothing.Generally, people will choose loose and comfortable but relatively formal clothing. In this project, what I want to explore is home wear and loose casual wear for home and home office. According to the survey, I learned that after the outbreak of the epidemic, the sales of home wear in the apparel market have increased sharply, followed by casual wear. The fabrics of these two types of clothing are relatively comfortable and soft. Then I used draping to experiment with more comfortable and softer fabrics, and finally got a sketch. Because the material characteristics of the fabric cannot achieve the upright effect of the silhouette, but it is more suitable for the target range of the human body in the looseness and comfort, providing more comfortable and practical home clothing.

"Simple happiness"

Life is boring, but the interesting thing of life lies in the constant exploration of the unknown. In my life, unpacking the delivery box is a fascinating thing for me. Although I know what is inside, I am full of expectation from I order online and wait for the arrival. And I am particularly excited when I unpack it. Inspired by this experience, this project expresses my pleasure by rich coloursand uses the drawing of unpacked delivery boxes to make a silhouette collage, which was further displayed through mannequin experiment. In the whole process, I was also exploring the possibility of clothing styling and gained happy memories brought by the final garments. Life is sometimes bitter and sometimes sweet. And we need to findhappiness from details rainbows on the white paper. This is the meaning of life.

"Future nostalgia"

In 2000, when human society just entered a new era of information technology, people longed for a day when electronic technology could create a Utopian world, so they pinned their imagination on clothing and created the 'Y2K' aesthetics. Nowadays, due to the frequent outbreak of wars, epidemics and even natural disasters, everyone is in danger, and the future world has become more unpredictable.

I therefore want to explore "the meaning of the existence of a Utopian world in human consciousness" in this project. At the beginning of the research, I was looking for what a Utopia might look like based on the current social situation, and found that what everyone wanted was a world without innocent injuries or suffering from illness. But gradually I discovered that people don't have to have Utopia. It only exists in people's consciousness of their disappointment in the present. Utopia is virtual, so I imagine it as a worry-free city in the sky. The sky means human consciousness, and the worry-free city means hope. The significance of the existence of Utopia in people's consciousness is that it represents the invisible straw of hope in our consciousness face lives in the future.
