Potential for sustainability in the digital
fashion industry

In my opinion, the Digital Fashion industry has a lot of promise. In the last two years, due to COVID-19, countless people have been forced to stay at home and spend more time in the virtual world, which has accelerated the progress of digital fashion. Many clothing brands have launched digital virtual products or collaborations in recent years. Snapchat, for example, will enable users to carry different Prada bags and take photos in the app in 2021. Earlier Snapchat also partnered with Gucci to launch an AR shoe fitting.

Advantages:

1. With the internet as the main component of modern life, many people's demand for clothing also comes from online shopping, so the example of the appeal can well solve some uncertainties that exist in people's online shopping for clothing-type products such as some size discomfort and color discomfort. This makes online shopping more hassle-free.

2. Enables mass production - We all know that only 10% of the garments shown at a fashion week go into production because the vast majority of these garments are designed for the fashion week runway and not for everyday wear, sometimes resulting in some good designs going to waste. But digital clothing allows these designs to be 'worn' and reach consumers, providing some opportunity for these designs to be produced at scale.

3. Digital allows fashion designers to be less tied to fabrics, processes and functionality, and they can put digital at the service of creativity, creating freer, bolder and more imaginative creations. For brands, creating NFT not only reduces the environmental impact of production but also reduces overcapacity to a certain extent.

4. Digital Fashion can create a more equitable showcase and experience for plus-size consumers, people with disabilities and the LGBTQI+ community, enabling people to explore new models of identity that are not constrained by traditional roles, social expectations, and labels.

Disadvantages:

1. Technology - For many designers, it takes a lot of time to learn how to use these technologies and it can take even more time to develop and design digital clothing. Therefore, digital fashion is still in its infancy in the industry and needs to be better understood and used by more designers and artists in order to develop it.

2. Also due to the complexity of the technology, it can take a lot of time to create a virtual garment, so this is one of the difficulties in developing digital fashion.

Overall, digital fashion is fast becoming part of the real world, as our world is now inextricably linked to the internet, and even more so in the future, so it is inevitable that digital fashion will become a mainstream part of the fashion industry. But today, as digital fashion is still in its infancy, there is still a lot to be discovered.
