Research about second-hand clothing market

COW

1. Clothing style: Overall, the shop is trendy and youthful, it sells both men's and women's clothing, and its merchandise will be more athleisure oriented. In particular, it sells revamped sportswear. However, it only offers women's camisoles, sweatshirts and jeans, but not men's clothing.

2. Prices: The prices in this shop are generally high, as it sells mostly designer or well-known branded clothing. Specially, the altered garments, which can cost 40% and more than pre-altered second-hand garments. For example, a sweatshirt in a similar fabric typically sells for £25 in the shop, while a garment that has been remodelled costs £35. There are also second-hand sweatshirts that are simply cut shorter in length and will sell for £40 and up.

3. Brands: The shop contains Vintage and second-hand clothing from many well-known brands such as Calvin Klein, Timberland, Lacoste, Ralph Lauren and Adidas. It also contains a small selection of luxury vintage items such as Burberry, Dolce&Gabbana etc.

4. Target demographic: The target costumers has a narrow age range of trendsetters between 18-28 years old.

WHITE ROSE

1. Clothing style: This shop is mainly women's wear, leaning towards a casual style. It usually sells basic clothing, with a few more fashionable styles, but these clothes show more obvious signs of use. In addition, it will have a few luxury bags and shoes in the window, and the styles will be rather old-fashioned.

2. Prices: Prices are affordable, with typical underwear and trousers being around £10, T-shirts around £5 and thick winter jackets costing around £15 to £30.

3. Brands: The shop includes a number of fast fashion brands (ZARA, HM, COLLUSION and NEW LOOK among others), online brands (ASOS and SHINE among others), popular brands (Primark) and likewise a few athleisure brands (Adidas, Superdry and Levi's among

others).

4. Target demographic: Customers are of a wide range of ages, from old ladies in their 60s and 70s to young girls in their 20s, all of whom are the main source of customers for this shop, but what these customers are looking for is comfort and good value for money.

Braderie&Wild Vintage

1. Clothing style: These two shops are mainly casual sports menswear (but I think women can also wear these clothes, they are street wear and the gender line is blurred), both are athflow, they sell fashionable athleisure brand clothing, Wild also sells some new, non-used branded clothing.

2. Prices: The prices in both shops are similar, ranging from £40 to £100 for jackets (depending on the brand and condition), £25 to £30 for sweaters/shirts and around £35 for trousers. For example, a relatively new Ralf Lauren jumper is only £26. I think it is because these two shops specialise in branded clothing, so the prices are cheaper than the same type of clothing in White Rose and Cow.

3. Brands: Street fashion and athleisure brands such as The North Face, Tommy Hilfiger, Columbia, NIKE, Champion, Dickies, Lee, HERMAN, Levi's and Ralf Lauren.

4. Target audience: Trendsetting 16-30 year old men/women.

· Break Lane

1. Clothing styles: There are many vintage items from Burberry and other brands that are older, but there are also some individual niche brands, so this vintage market contains many different styles of clothing.

2. Prices: Prices in there vary, with Vintage branded clothing being more expensive and off-brand clothing being less expensive. Individual branded clothing is also more expensive, for example a shop selling deconstructed clothing ("frocku-") costs over £100, with one dress costing around £150 as it can be worn in a variety of ways with many clever designs incorporated into it. The Burberry trench coats here are all priced at £200 and upwards, and although there are some luxury garments in the £500 range, they are very obviously used. So overall, the prices at this Vintage market are on the high side. But with the high prices comes the risk of paying a lot of money for fakes in this branded place.

3. Brands: For famous brands, Burberry sells the most, but there are also many luxury brands such as Dior, Gucci, Prada, Dolce&Gabbana and Fendi. There are more luxury brands than any other shop, and because it's famous for its vintage, it's a good place for vintage sellers to gather. There are also a few niche designers here, such as frocku-. There is also a wide range of sports brands.

4. Target audience: Fashion conscious men and women aged 16-60. These consumers value the individuality of brands and clothing, or indulge in a love of vintage "old".

· The Heart British

1. Clothing styles: The clothing here is mainly casual, with most of the garments being classic and basic, but almost all of them are rather dated. This shop sells both men's and women's clothing, with a predominance of women's clothing.

2. Prices: Prices are low here as most of the clothes sold are donated. Each individual item is almost under £20, with spring and autumn coats and winter clothing being a little more expensive, although they don't top out at over £40.

4. Target audience: The customer group is men/women over 30. They are looking for low prices and do not have high requirements for style and fashion of clothing.

· Oxfam

1. Clothing styles: This charity shop also focuses on casual clothing and the clothes are almost all basic and simple. The shop sells both men's and women's clothing, mostly women's clothing. Most of the clothesin this chain are very old, also because the clothes sold were donated, so the clothes in this shop are quite outdated.

2. Prices: This shop has even lower prices for clothes, almost under £10, and even some summer clothes for only £2 or £3. So this shop is kind of the lowest priced of the shops I researched.

3. Brands: Almost all of them are fast fashion brands such as ZARA.

4. Target audience: Men/women over 30. They are looking for low prices and do not require much in terms of style and fashion of clothing.

· KIN

1. Clothing styles: Re-modeled, collage style, women's clothing only. This shop has a lot of re-vamped clothing, it is also handmade from vintages materials and I found the clothing from this shop very informative for my project. But the shop's approach to revamping pieces is based on collage patterns only, such as adding a flame pattern directly to a complete garment, and it is incorporated in a very rigid and poorly made way. And the workmanship of these clothes is not very good either.

2. Prices: I think the price is a bit on the high side because their alterations are simply cutting out a part of Vintage and sewing it directly onto a full garment, such that a basic short-sleeved topwould cost £55 and a pair of jeans would go up to £125. In my opinion, this is without incorporating any special design.

3. Brands: In addition to this shop's own revamped clothing, they also buy Vintage from brands such as MaxMara, but they all focus on suits and jackets.

4. Target audience: The style of this shop is more fashionable, the interior is more colourful and the whole shop has a young feel, so this shop is aimed at fashionable women from 18-28.
